From Across the Track...

Another photographer records Harris' impact.  Even though the crowd in the grandstand is indeed close to the action, a LeMans 1955-style disaster was unlikely as the accident unfolded parallel to the unprotected crowd.  Today, a wall and catch fencing would be imperative here.

"As the car flipped through the air, seemingly headed for the grandstands, a large group of people panicked. I later heard that some spectators were injured. There were reports of people jumping off the back of the grandstands from the top row, a broken leg, etc."
