More Bob Harris &
the Campbell Special
The Campbell Special was originally a
Class "G" Modified car with an 1100cc. JAP motorcycle engine and chain
drive.
When the car appeared at Santa Barbara
for the Labor day event on September 2-3, 1961 a Chevy V8 had replaced
the little JAP.
Driver Bob Harris showed the car's potential
in practice when he blasted past drivers expected to be contenders in the
main event.
Here he sets up Jack
McAfee for a pass exiting Turn 7. |

Harris makes short work of Steve
Baughman's Maserati 200-SI. A month later, both cars qualified
for the Riverside Grand Prix. |
March 3-4, 1962. The Special,
now short-tailed, in the bleak, barren pit area of Riverside Raceway. |
