finished 2nd to Jack Brabham in the 1961 Riverside GP.  At this time, he was a Cooper factory driver.  McLaren's fame as a Can Am driver and constructor was still to come.
 

At Laguna Seca the next week, McLaren finished 4th behind Moss, Gurney, and Brabham. Here, he laps Bob Hurt in Ferrari Testa Rossa TR59 #0766.
