(8-2-09) From Corvette expert Jim
Gessner:
"This is the same car as the #46 that raced
at Pebble Beach on April 21, 1956 and won its class, but lost to Tony
Settember in the MB 300 Gullwing.
Dr. Dick Thompson continued racing this car (which he bought in California
himself per SCCA rules ) throughout the east. He won every race he
ever entered with the car. It was powered by the 265 cu. inch new Chevrolet
V-8, with 2x4 barrel WCFB Carburetors, with new high performance ‘DUNTOV’
camshaft and had 240hp. The also had a 3 speed transmission, special cere-metalic
brake linings with finned drums and an “open” rear end. Positraction was
not available until January 1957.
The car was last seen in Beverly, Mass in October 1956." |
