Bruce McLaren / Denny Hulme -- McLaren M6As
The Stardust Can-Am race featured a rare double-DNF by the McLaren
team. Team leader McLaren
qualified on the pole, Hulme
was slowed by a mechanical problem during the qualifying session and started
5th.
McLaren's engine blew on the 14th lap. Hulme had to pit early
with a puncture caused by on-track debris, but fought back to 4th place.
Then the usuually reliable engine in his McLaren
M6A blew on lap 51, costing him the 1967 Can-Am Driver's Championship
and delivering it his teammate McLaren..
