LeMans Start -- 1

In the famous "LeMans Start", drivers sprint across the track to their cars at the 4:00 PM start time.

A driver jumps in, and, usually (hopefully), his car starts.

If the car starts, and he's not in too much of a hurry, he buckles himself  in.

Then he blasts off down the track, trying not to bang fenders with other entrants.

This system worked much better when drivers were restrained only with seat belts, if those.
