Jerry Grant -- Ferrari
250TR
A frequent winner in Pacific
Northwest events in 1960-61 in ex-factory
team car Ferrari #0704, Grant
qualified for the "L.A. Times Grand Prix" at Riverside on Oct. 15, 1961,
through the "Consolation Race". He finished 14th after a solid drive
in an obsolete car.
The "Consolation Race" enabled cars unable
to post fast enough laps (for whatever reason) to qualify for the main
event directly to advance. Roger
Penske in his Cooper Monaco, Augie
Pabst in the Cunningham Team's Maserati Type 63 V12, and Don
Hulette in the Arciero Bros. Ferrari-Maserati
that started life as Ferrari 375MM #0362,
all made the Grand Prix field by this route in the over two-liter class.
George Grinzewitsch in his
older Cooper Monaco and Steve Baughman
in his Maserati 200SI moved up in the under two-liter class.
