John Armanino's Healey-Chevrolet  (1)

John on the grid at Tracy, CA, May 11, 1958.  I couldn't find full results for Tracy in "MotoRacing" Volume #3 #16.  On page 4 a photos shows Chuck Howard in a Maserati 200SI and Eldon Beagle in a Porsche 550 battling for third place.  Jack McAfee won the race in another Porsche 550, with Sam Weiss 2nd in a Ferrari 500TR.

John shares the front row at Tracy with some heavy iron:  the white #64 is Fred Knoop in the Huffaker-Chevy.  The red #198 is Dan Gurney in John Edgar's Maserati 450S.

John's fine driving at Stockton on March 23, 1958 received notice in the press:

From "MotoRacing" April 14-11, 1958 (Vol. 3 #16 pg. 8):  "... several very promising and able drivers were greeted by the checkered flag.  Probably the most spectacular of these were John Armanino, Jerry Lewis, and Erv Lehr, who qualified for the senior main events by their showing in the Novice modified race.  This event was won by Armanino..."

From the "Stockton Record" March 24, 1958:   "...the major surprise of the races was the standout performance of Linden, CA, driver John Armanino.  Armanino drove his Chevrolet-engined Austin Healey to victory in the Saturday race for novice drivers in modified cars.  The full-race Corvette engine pushed the little British bomb into both overall and Class C wins, beating all type of machinery.

This win qualified Armanino to drive in the main race with senior drivers yesterday.  In the Sunday feature, the Linden leadfoot again roared home to a win in class C and took second overal behind Eldon Beagle's Porsche 550 Spyder"
