Julian Classic Motoring Show

Lotus Eleven racer Bob Engberg's second annual automotive gala was a big success:

"The Show on Sunday, May 29th, at Menghini Winery was an aesthetic success. We expected 75 cars and got over 100. I had to close same-day entries when our meadow area became filled to the brim.

The highlight for me was the informal Saturday evening Reception for entrants and locals held at Menghini Winery. There was good food (prepared by Sherry Engberg) and fine wines from the Menghinis with some dozen classics parked around the reception area, including Judge DiLoretto's two Cobras and a 1929 Franklin from the Alford Distributing Collection. Quite a
site!

Among the Show's standouts were George Chilberg's 1939 Lagonda, John Kerridge's 1925 Frazer-Nash, the Gullwing of Bud and Christine Hartwell, George Boaz's XK120, the Arnolt-Bristol of Wayne Hanson and the "Best of Show" winner Bob Deichmann's 300SL Roadster. I gave the "Chairman's Choice Award" to Judge DiLoretto for his 1964 Cobra Roadster. It is a car that had all sorts of chrome in all the wrong places when he bought it, and he has restored it to be what it was when it was built. It's absolutely fantastic.

We had gourmet food (as promised) and live music and about 1000 very friendly entrants and spectators.

Thank you for letting your web visitors know about our benefit show. We will be able to give $1000 to our town's patriotic "July 4th Parade" and $2000 to our local volunteer firefighters. A special thanks to all the participants who drove, hauled, trailered or coaxed their classics up to Julian for the day.

We plan to have our annual show next year over Memorial Day Weekend and we'll be featuring a "Festival Italiano."  I hope to see the meadow full of red racing cars from Italy mixed with a collection of classic touring and vintage race cars. Look for us at www.julianclassic.com/"

Best Wishes,   Bob Engberg
