From Ed Sauer:
"It's a photo of James R. Lowe of Santa Cruz, Calif. No idea where
this photo was taken (any ideas?) but it's dated Aug. 8, 1954 by Canaan
Photos 6426 Garvanza Ave., Los Angeles.
It's hard to find photos
of the early days of sports-car racing at Pacific Raceways. Almost
impossible to find pre-1960 photos. Here's the caption that appeared
in the paper and the article that ran along with it:
SEAFAIR SPIN: James Lowe
of Santa Cruz, Calif., will drive his Frazer-Nash
today in the Seafair Sports-car Races near Bremerton. A field of
100 drivers is expected for the second annual Seafair Sports-car Races
at the Kitsap County Airport near Bremerton today. The West's top
drivers will compete. Listed among them is Bill Cantrell of Gold
Cup speedboat racing fame. Cantrell will drive Anders Thompson's
Dodge Red-Ram special.
Dr. Ralph Vilardi of New
York City will be behind the wheel of one of the Porsches owned by Dr.
A. Dean Johnson of Seattle. Vilardi has been a consistent winner
in national races.
Michael Balfe, a Vancouver,
B.C. entry, will drive his MG special. Balfe's car is presently on
top in Canadian competition. Four races are on the program today.
A production race opens the show at 10:30am."
