Although it was a heavy touring car not designed for competition, a few Thunderbirds appeared on American racecourses in the mid 1950s.   Miller finished 17th in his 5112cc. car. 

Dames was a non-starter in the race in his 4638cc. car after a strong "driving lights-on" run in Sunday morning's foggy practice.
