Historian Ron Cummings comments:

"The 1953 Tatum is powered by a in-line 6 cylinder GMC 12 port motor.  The car was originally powered this way.  At one point the Tatum GMC motor was stolen and Tatum used a V8 Flathead for a short time but the car has been corrected."
