Pierre Levegh's Talbot-Lago
T26 GS Spider
Racing history at Soberanes Point!
France's Pierre Levegh tried to win the
1952 LeMans 24-Hours single-handed in this car. With only 90 minutes
to go, he was four laps ahead of the ultimate winner, the Mercedes- Benz
300-SL Prototype of Hermann Lang/Fritz Reiss when (as legend has it) he
missed a shift due to driver fatigue and over-revved the engine.
This car went by going south but didn't
appear later at the lunchtime display in downtown Carmel. (It had
a problem near the turnaround in Big Sur. TM)
