Mid-field competitors battle through Turn 7A, the modification to the course that shortened the original 1.1 mile back straight.
 
Frank Monise in his 1600cc. Lotus Mk.23B leads Don Jensen's Cheetah and Don Hulette in the Pontiac-powered Townsend Special out of the corner.

Four Northern Californians are next:  Chuck Parsons in another 1600cc. Lotus Mk.23B leads Stan Peterson in the ex-Rod Carveth Lotus Mk.19-Buick.  Next is Bart Martin's Cooper-Chevy and Ed Leslie in yet another 1600cc. Lotus Mk.23B
