Coronado Speed Festival -- Oct. 9, 2005

The huge naval base on Coronado Island is known as the birthplace of naval aviation.  As part of San Diego's annual "Fleet Week" celebration Steve Earle's "General Racing" lays out a 1.6 mile course with pylons and "K Rail" and brings the "Coronado Speed Festival" to the runways and taxiways of the huge, active base.

Unfortunately, there was a fatality during Saturday's Group 2 event.  Veteran racer Duncan Emmons of Rancho Mirage, CA, suffered a heart attack and died while driving his 1953 Kurtis 500S.
