Riverside:  April 3, 1960 -- 1

The "Los Angeles Examiner & Herald-Express  2nd annual Grand Prix for Sports Cars"  featured the West Coast's top sports car drivers facing international stars like Carroll Shelby, Dan Gurney, and World Champion Jack Brabham.  Indy car pros Lloyd Ruby and Rodger Ward also appeared (both DNF'd).

Hey!  Keep your eyes on the road!

Carroll Shelby spots something REALLY INTERESTING on his way to a win in the Camoradi-entered Maserati Type 61 "Birdcage" #2458.

He drove an intelligent race in very hot weather and outlasted the early leaders.

Two brave Texans show how it's done.

Lloyd Ruby "on the limit" in the scary "Micro-Lube" Maserati 450S #4509 leads Shelby through Riverside's high-speed Turn 1.

Ruby's run ended on lap 50 while running 2nd.

Another look at fearless Lloyd Ruby sliding the "Micro-Lube" Maserati 450S.

Thanks to Bob Norton for these great photos!
