Rob Hall -- 1955 Lancia
D50 Grand Prix Car
Website visitor Bob Lang contributed
this photo, far better than the blurry one of my own posted here before.
Thanks Bob!
Rob Hall of Sleaford, UK, finished 10th
against a field composed mostly of far more modern mid-engined cars.
Lancia campaigned the 2484cc. V8 D-50
in 1955. The cars showed promise as a possible threat to Mercedes-Benz's
dominance of F1 with the W196.
But the small Italian company lacked the resources to compete on this level
and almost bankrupted itself in the effort. For 1956 Lancia simply
turned their whole F1 operation over to Ferrari. The 1956 cars, known
as Lancia-Ferraris, were extensively re-engineered and Juan Manuel Fangio
won that year's World Championship driving them. |
