John Zilisch -- 1949
Veritas
John Zilisch of Payson, AZ, entered this
very pretty "Veritas", striking in its brilliant yellow paint. I
don't recall seeing the car on the racecourse. (Not in 2004
-- it did run in 2006.)
The Veritas was one of the first sports/racers
created in immediate post-WWII Germany. It used a pre-war BMW 328
engine. This well-engineered 2-liter straight 6-cylinder later evolved
into the "Bristol" used in many British racers of the 1950s. (For
the historians: Didn't Bristol gain the rights to this engine through
war reparations?)
A Veritas actually raced in southern
California in the 1950s. |
