Jim Parkinson -- Campbell Special (1)
Bill
Campbell rebuilt his Special after Bob
Harris' crash. The car looked much better and more finished in
its second incarnation. The fearless
Jim Parkinson was enlisted as driver.
The car was the fastest main event entrant at Pomona, but suffered
mechanical woes. Due to an emergency head-gasket replacement
Parkinson started three laps down. Once on the course he was a rocket,
breaking the lap record and moving up to finish 7th.
In 2005, the late Tom Mittler restored the Campbell Special and ran
it at that year's Monterey Historics.
