"The beautiful Fawcett photo of the silver #14 300SL was taken during the 1st National Torrey Pines race on July 9/10 -- 1955.  The driver was Paul O'Shea -- he amazed everyone when be beat the entire production car field;
... and he finished 6th overall in the over-1500cc main event.

Of interest is that O'Shea ended the season with 11,750 points -- his closest rival was Chuck Wallace (Jaguar XK) who finished 1000 points behind O'Shea."
