Carroll Shelby and Aston Martin

Peter Hardman drove the 1959 LeMans winning Aston Martin DBR1  to victory in group 4B at the Monterey Historics in 1997.  This was the first overall victory for an Aston Martin in Laguna Seca history.

The drivers in the 1959 LeMans win were Briton Roy Salvadori and American mega-hero Carroll Shelby.

In tribute to Shelby's LeMans victory, Hardman drove him around Laguna Seca on several demonstration laps.

The pair returns through the pits after their spectacular run.

Hardman backs the car into its pit space.

The red car next to the Aston Martin is Mark Leonard's Ford GT40.

A look at Shelby as he relives the day 38 years before when he and Roy Salvadori defeated Ferrari at LeMans.

That victory helped win the World Sports Car Championship for Aston Martin in 1959.
