Don Wester -- 2

For the 1962 pro races Wester acquired a Porsche RSK and upgraded it with the latest and hottest 1700cc. engine.

Website visitor Larry Wilson contributed this photo of Wester in the RSK at Laguna Seca's old Turn 7 during the Pacific Grand Prix held on Oct. 20-21, 1962.

For the 1963 season Wester bought Bob Donner's Porsche RS61 and campaigned it nationwide in the USRRC series.  Here, Wester leads Graham Hill at the Northwest GP on September 29, 1963, at Pacific Raceway near Kent, Washington.  Wester was 4th and 5th in the two heats and won the Under 2-liter class.

Hill was a late arrival, and drove Roy Winkelmann's Lotus 23-Climax from last place on the grid to 3rd in the first heat.  He stalled on the grid and got away last in the second.  He got up to 9th (second in class) by the seventh lap.  On lap 12 he retired with gearbox woes.
