Richie Ginther --
Ferrari 412 MI (2)
Pete
Lovely was originally slated to drive this car (#0744)
in the 1960 L.A. Times GP while Richie
Ginther was entered in #0672,
the famous Ferrari "hot rod": one of John von Neumann's 625-TRC
cars converted to V12 power.
But the engine in the 625TRC/V12 failed
in practice and Ginther, who had driven the
412 MI to victory in the "Kiwanis
Grand Prix", also held at Riverside on July 19, 1959, took over the
car. Ginther had also qualified
on the pole for the 1959 "Times GP" in the car. (He DNF'd
in that race, won by Phil Hill.)
