Hall brakes for Laguna Seca's old Turn 5: Can-Am practice

The green grass of Spring is long gone and May's sunny skies have given way to an October rainstorm's gloom.

This photo leads to a question for experts on Chaparral minutia: Is there a reason for the added areas of red paint on the car's wing?  Note paint on the sides of the wing only in photos shot during the 5-5-1968 USRRC race.

(2-24-12)   From Scott Woodside:

"I seem to remember reading somewhere the wing tips were painted after
someone walked into the end of a wing and gave themselves a cut head."
