Butch Gilbert -- 1959
Hagemann-Sutton Special
Gilbert finished 3rd in this hybrid car
with a fascinating history. It actually started life as a rebodied
Talbot-Lago T26 Grand Prix car,
then was separated from this beautiful custom bodywork crafted by Jack
Sutton when the Talbot
chassis was restored to its Grand Prix configuration.
The body shown here was then mounted
on a Scarab-like Special's chassis and the car returned to the racing wars.
All to the good -- we get to see this beautiful & interesting Special
out on the racetrack!
