Backman finished 15th in this colorful & photogenic car.  These cars were called "Knobblies" because of the various bulges and protuberances of their purely functional bodywork.  In 1959, the idea of one of these brutal racers in Concours condition would have had aficionados rolling on the floor, overcome by uncontrollable  laughter.
