Maui

After I finished work at Larry's, I spent some of my construction money on an inter-island tour.  I first went to Maui, then Kauai, then back to Oahu for more carousing with Kent & Rosemary.

On Maui, I visited my college friend Conrad Lewis, his wife Linda, and their Hawaiian-born daughter Mua.

Conrad & Linda lived "Upcountry" on Maui, at an elevation where the climate resembled Santa Barbara, California.

I had a nice visit with them, and had a chance to explore yet another island.

A view from the summit of Maui's Haleakala volcano.

In the distance are the two giant volcanoes on the Big Island.  Mauna Kea with its observatories and tropical skiing is on the left.

On the right is the still-active shield volcano Mauna Loa.  No skiing here, not even any roads.  The summit is a great hiking destination, though.  Some day I'd like to go there.

Here's a link to the reverse view back from Mauna Kea.
