(2-28-12) More from David
Seielstad:
"I know little about 0522. It was a Cornacchia
(Sc Guastalla) car. Franco Cornacchia was one of Ferrari's first dealers
and ran a very extensive racing team selling many competition Ferrari to
his racing customers. It may have been imported by Ernie McAfee then to
Bob Path and later Bates. It was on display in Briggs Cunningham's museum
for many years. Bill Schley bought it. Sold to Mark Smith in 1987 then
to Europe and later acquired by Miles Collier.
0636 is a von Neumann car. He bought
it along with 0650. Raced by JvN and Ginther in 1956, sold to Howard Wheeler
in 1957 (raced by Ginther) sold back to JvN 1958. Sold to Sam Weiss in
April 1958, sold to Ed Vincent in Sept 1958. Sold by Vincent to D. Burton
in 1961 (you have a photo of it at Vacaville #26 in August 1961.).
It eventually made its way to Alaska
with Ralph Stefano. Lost its engine. Was raced with an 857 Monza
engine (0570M). After Ralph died it was restored in Colorado by Mike Doupjeda
(sp?) with a V 12 engine. At the 1997 Ferrari 50th it was stolen in Italy
and has never resurfaced. |
