John Morton -- 1961 Porsche RS61
Morton rounds Turn 9 during Friday morning's dreary, wet practice.
This is a unique RS61. It has a wheelbase four inches longer
than standard to allow for mounting Porsche's then-experimental 2-liter
flat-8 engine for testing. Bob
Holbert bought the car and campaigned it with the usual 1700cc. flat-4,
but he liked the extra wheelbase length as he felt it improved the car's
handling.
The car is now powered by the very rare flat-8.
