Riverside, February 2-3
1963 -- 1
Another batch of old negatives recently
surfaced. They provide a look at some of the interesting cars that
raced in California in early 1963.
Bill Sturges from Gardnerville, Nevada,
won the main event in his rarely-seen Cooper Monaco-Climax.
Graham
Hill had raced the car in the October, 1962 pro events at Riverside
and Laguna Seca with little success. |

Don
Wester leads
Ken Miles, both
in 1700cc. Porsche RS61s. Miles eventually finished 2nd to Sturges.
Wester was 3rd. |
Bob
Harris replaced
Bill Krause
in the Harry Finer-entered Maserati Type 61 "Birdcage" #2452.
The car appeared with new gold/black
paint and Harris' familiar #17. |
