Kimberly -- Ferrari 166 After Rollover
Kimberly's Ferrari 166
after a rollover accident in Turn 3.
From Michael T. Lynch,
William Edgar, and Ron Parravano's "American
Sports Car Racing in the 1950s" page 51:
"A fabulous race developed
between Pollack, Jack Armstrong's Allard-Cadillac, Phil Hill, and Jim Kimberly's
Ferrari 166. Pollack, Hill, and Armstrong all led during the first 20 laps
(of 48 scheduled) with Kimberly also in sight of the leaders. Then Kimberly,
who had passed Hill for third, rolled the Ferrari in the fast Turn 3 sweeper.
He emerged, unscathed, and was given a kiss by a very relieved Ginger Rogers."
Can anyone identify the
gentlemen in the photo? Another look at the ex-Kimberly
Ferrari racing at the "Wine Country Classic" held at Sears Point (Infineon)
Raceway June 3-4-5, 2005.
