From Trenor Stanley:  "That same year, I entered my car in the Riverside races.  On my first lap of practice, because of loose dirt and sand blowing across the track at Turn Six, my car lost traction, and I completely lost it.  The car flipped over, landing upright.  No rollbars were required in 1957, so I was very lucky to survive the crash, being only severely shaken up.  The results can be seen in the photo."

(12-18-08)  More from Trenor on his Riverside accident:

"This is an update to the crash of my Austin Healey at Riverside in 1957.  I have just finished reading a book that I had never read before.  It is out of print now, but it was written by Art Evans, entitled:  "The Fabulous Fifties, Sports Car Races in Southern California".

When I came to the chapter covering the Riverside races in 1957, all the memories of that time came rushing back.  A chill ran down my spine for it described the fatal crash of John Lawrence in his MG at Turn 6, the same Turn 6 where my accident took place in practice on that very same day.

Since my car was wrecked from the roll-over, and I was still shaken up, I did not stay for the races and was driven home by a friend wqho had come down with me as a spectator.  I firmly believe that God's hand was on me at that time, as my car rolled over in the same way that took John Lawrence's life.  It was not my time to go!
