From Trenor Stanley: "Allen Kuhn took this photo, same weekend
but a different number of laps. Bob Bondurant, # 51, is leading the
pack into turn one. My car, #86, can be seen behind two other Corvettes,
bumper to bumper. A real bottleneck at the first turn. Where
I placed overall, and in class B production with my Corvette, are recorded
in Michael Antonick’s book “California Screamin’: The Glory Days of Corvette
Racing.” (9th on June 1, 1958, 6th on August 31, 1958.)
I am 76 years old now, and I look back on those days with some great
memories of what once was, and will never be again. I was a student
back then, and I raced for the fun of it all, as did so many others at
that time. We were all amateurs having the best time of our lives.
The tracks I remember were Riverside, Pomona, Laguna Seca, Santa Barbara
and Palm Springs."
