From Trenor Stanley:  "This photograph was taken at the Pomona races Feb. 9th, 1958.  I was the only Corvette driver during 1958 that carried the racing number 86.  This was my first race in the car before I stripped it down for racing, removing the hardtop and windshield and installing a rollbar.  The other Vette in the photo is in close pursuit of my car.  It looks as though he probably overtook me seconds later."

More from Trenor:  "The Corvette #100 chasing me belonged to Frank Cairns.  The driver in the photo is Joe Weatherley:  he won that race."

(12-18-08)   More from Trenor Stanley:

"This is an update to the photo of my first race at Pomona, hotly pursued by Frank Cairn's Corvette being driven by Joe Weatherly.

Joe Weatherly very sadly lost his life in 1964 at the Riverside race track during a NASCAR Grand National Championship race."
