Rodger Ward -- Ferrari 121 LM / Jack Graham --
Aston Martin DB3S-Chevy
This photo must have been shot in practice as it couldn't have been
shot during the race. An odd coincidence to see these two cars running
together, as they came together castastrophically at the start of the Grand
Prix.
Near the front of the grid, second-row starter Dan Gurney stalled
his Ferrari's engine. In the confusion, Graham, an experienced
driver, couldn't avoid Gurney's stopped car. His red
Aston smashed into the 4.9
Ferrari, then caromed into Ward's slower 4.4
liter 6-cylinder Ferrari, which was accelerating up from the back of
the field.
