Hi !
I'm the Bill de Creeft (note
spelling !....it's a very old name and I'm the oldest one alive!
My son is the only other male) from whom Ron
Keil bought the Aston. I raced it about every weekend for a year
and a half, 1958 and 1959. I had a ball and I loved that little car.
Drove it to the races for a long time before I came up with a trailer.
Raced in the First Intnl.Grand
Prix at Riverside (Times Grand Prix) and everywhere from Laguna Seca to
Palm Springs and even in Hawaii at the Pro Race there. Bill Love
was Joe Lubin's salesman when I bought the car.Raced with (hardly against
!?!) some very well known international drivers and it was a terrific experience
to be on those tracks with them. I will make a list someday, and if
you're interested I'll drop you a line. I have other pics but that's the
prettiest; I still have one original print of it.
I just ran across your site
tonight doing a search of Astons. What a kick!
I have been a seaplane pilot
in Alaska for about 40 years, if you are curious take a look
at my
website......
I used to tell people that I had a wonderful time racing but I realized
what made me a good pilot kept me from being a winning race car driver....that
and the fact that the Aston and I were racing things like Testa Rossas
and Scarabs and birdcage Maseratis driven by Gurney and Hill and Ken Miles
and Carrol Shelby etc. !?!
I had another neat car that
I never raced....a Ferrari Factory coupe
that raced at Spa and the
Carrera Mexicana.
You'll find it on my site if you go to the page labeled Travel
Air and click on
Ferrari.
Mind you, in those days nothing was older than a five year old race car.
Paid $4500 for the Ferrari, sold it for $3750 with a bad valve and sold
the Aston and the trailer for $3000 to Ron. They have gained a little in
value since then......But I had the most fun with them than any other owner
they would have!" |
