Danno Raffetto --
Ferrari-Corvette
The driver in this Cotati Raceway shot
doesn't look like either car owner Red
Faris or his "Designated Driver" Bill
Sherwood. After the July 15-16 SCCA races at Cotati, Faris bought
the car from Stan Sugarman. He raced
it at Vaca Valley Raceway on August 19-20, 1961 but didn't like its handling
and turned the driving over to Sherwood.
Sherwood raced the car in Northern California
for the rest of the 1961 season and through all of the 1962 season.
He won his only overall victory at Vaca Valley Raceway in November, 1962,
after Stan Peterson rolled Bev Spencer's Maserati
Type 151 in Turn 1.
Northern California Corvette driver Danno
Raffetto bought the car, painted it red, and raced
it with his usual #28 in 1963-64.
This photo could have been shot at an
early 1963 "Racing Drivers Club" or "RDC" session at Cotati. "RDC
Sessions" were combination training days for novice drivers and test days
for veterans preparing for the coming racing season.
This looks like Raffetto getting ready
to go out for a test drive right before or right after buying the car.
Michael
Callaham has raced the car in historic events since 1985 with V12 power.
