"Phil Hill drove a 3-liter Ferrari Monza in Sunday's Main event.  I was at turns 4-5 sitting with Watsie Roach, and  I told him that "Hill would be leading when the cars get here." Watsie told me they lined cars up according to engine size and that Murphy's Buick would be in the lead. I think he was right.  Anyway, Hill drove this von Neumann owned Ferrari until it broke and dnf'd. What a beautiful car."

"Bill Murphy built this Kurtis with Buick engine sometime shortly before this race, as I recall this was one of the car's first outings. He led the first lap or two."

"Here's the two-liter Ferrari entered by Manning Post and driven by Phil Hill in Saturday's enduro.  I saw this car again 42 years after taking this photo, at the Coronado Speed Festival.  Phil Hill was at Coronado that year too."
