"Imagine the thrill of being a 13 year kid with a camera in the midst of cars most of which I had only seen in Road and Track. Some cars, like the Lotus MK IX, somehow got into my system and I've been unable to shake them out during the almost 50 years that separates that weekend from this day.  Some of the cars racing at that January event remain the most beautiful ever made, in my eyes, and there was something about the grace of a Scaglietti designed body that cannot be improved. They were aerodynamic (for their day) and raced without intrusive roll bars; they seemed the very essence of speed and daring and beauty."

"Anyway, these are the photos I took. The ones that are obviously taken in the morning were shot after my brother Chuck, friend Fred Puhn and I had sneaked into the course before the ticket people were set up. With ingenuity one could usually sneak into the pit lane along the front straight when no one was looking."
