Much was expected of this car/driver combination.  The car won at LeMans with Phil Hill / Olivier Gendebein driving.  I remember watching Rodriguez drift through Riverside's Turn 1 with the V12 screaming, and he looked unbeatable.  But various mechanical and preparation issues kept the car from qualifying.

In the consolation race for non-qualifiers, Rodriguez DNF'd after banging fenders with Chuck Sargent in the ex-Bill Krause Birdcage Maserati entering Turn 6.
