The 2011 CSRG "Charity Challenge" event at Infineon Raceway raised money for the "Speedway Children's Charities" and featured  a fine turnout of F-5000 and Can-Am cars. 

The 2011 "Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion" presented four days of on-track action with 550 entries.  Jaguar was the featured marque and there was also a special event for Ferrari GTOs.

General Racing presented the 2nd Annual "Sonoma Historic Motorsports Festival" June 3-4-5 at northern California's Infineon Raceway.  Rainy weather affected the weekend, but the cars and the racing were first rate.

CSRG opened their 2011 season with a successful historic racing event at Northern California's Infineon Raceway.  Held concurrently was an "MG Revival" hosted by MGVR.

One of the west coast's favorite historic events, the HMSA spring meeting at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, was weather-challenged this year.

John McCann's photos of the 1968 L.A. Times Grand Prix at Riverside.  Woolworth heir Lance Reventlow's Scarabs ruled American racing, but Phil Hill challenged them  with a super-potent 4.1 liter 4-cam Ferrari.

In 1964 Haskell Wexler brought Old Yeller III to shooting locations for the film "Viva Las Vegas" starring Elvis Presley and Ann Margret.

Before he became involved with Max Balchowsky and the Old Yellers, Haskell Wexler was already involved with Southern California sports car racing.

Renowned cinematographer Haskell Wexler was known in the early 1960s California racing world as the owner and sponsor of some of Max Balchowsky's Old Yeller cars.

The 2010 "Coronado Speed Festival" was a spectacular weekend of historic racing held on the runways of Naval Base Coronado "the birthplace of naval aviation". 

The "Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion" was a whale of an event, with over 600 entrants and four days of racing.  Photos and pages posted for cars in Race Groups 1A --> 7B.

Previously known as the "Pre-Historics", this year the practice and testing weekend prior to the "Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion", has grown into a race weekend in its own right.

"Sonoma Historic Motorsports Festival" (June 4-5-6) was a great weekend of beautiful cars and spirited racing.

Dr. Ernie Nagamatsu contributed an interesting group of slides to this website.  They're mostly pit shots showing well-known, and lesser known, Southern California racing cars and drivers from the early 1960s.

"Best Shots" from 2009 Monterey Historics posted!  Your webmaster's favorite photos from a truly classic historic racing event.

The 2009 running was maybe the best Monterey Historics ever, and perhaps the last, at least in its current form:   All racing groups  and "A Stroll Through the Pits" and "Demo Laps/ Misc." now posted.

Bob Harris' son Raider Harris contributed more photos of his father's career.   After Bob recovered from his 9-2-62 accident at Santa Barbara, he drove the ex-Bill Krause Maserati Type 61  "Birdcage", a one-off Elva- Maserati, and the famous "Vinegaroon" Genie-Chevrolet.
 

Your webmaster attended the first race of the new season in California, the HMSA event at Mazda-Laguna Seca Raceway near Monterey.  Some interesting cars, great weather, and a chance to take some pictures!

In 1961-62 Bob Harris raced the mid-engined V8-powered Campbell Special in California events.  He survived a terrifying accident at Santa Barbara on September 2, 1962

David Martin's photos from the pro events held in Southern California in 1959; at both the L.A. County Fairgrounds in Pomona on March 7, 1959 and at Riverside Raceway on October 11, 1959..

Website visitor Dieter Schambach contributed these photos he shot at the 1967 "Stardust" Can-Am race held near Las Vegas, Nevada on November 12, 1967.

On July 15, 1961, the San Francisco Region of the SCCA sponsored a 3-Hour Enduro race at Cotati Raceway in Northern California.  Roger Daniells contributed these photos from the enduro and the supporting sprint races.

Dr. Ernie Nagamatsu drove Old Yeller II at the Goodwood Revival Meeting on September 19-21, 2008.

Peter McKercher, Vice-President of the North American Singer Owner's Club, contributed these photos of Southern California racing in the early 1950s.

In 1962 the San Francisco Region of the SCCA opened their racing season on April 14-15 at the Port of Stockton using a true road course.  Previous Stockton events used airport runways.  New scans and new text and all new pages!
